Family Leisure wants your Pool Ownership to be as easy and inexpensive as possible. The best thing you can do to make opening your pool simple and easy each spring, is to follow the proper steps when closing the pool down the preceding fall.
- Remove any water left on top of the pool cover by siphoning, or by using electric pump.
- Remove the pool cover. Try to avoid letting any leaves or debris fall into the Pool.
- Clean the pool cover using hose along with a broom and mild soap. Make sure you allow cover to dry prior to storage to avoid any mildew or dry rot.
- Reconnect the filter to the pool. See owners manual for info regarding the filter set up. The hose from the skimmer on the side of the pool connects to the front of the pool pump. The hose on the other side of the filter (return side) connects back to the Pool.
- Fill the Pool to the proper level, about 1” from the top of the skimmer.
- Once the pool is full, plug in the filter to begin circulation / filtering of the water.
- Using your test strips, test the Alkalinity, adjust if needed. If high, do nothing. The normal tendency is for the Alkalinity to drop. If low, add Sodium Bicarbonate, or Baking Soda.
- Normal alkalinity is between 80 – 120 parts per million ( PPM ).
- 1 lb of Baking Soda raises 10,000 gallons of water 2 ppm.
- Test the pH, and adjust if needed. Again, 1 lb of pH+ or pH- raises 10,000 gallons of water 2 ppm.
- Normal ph is between 7.2 – 7.8
- Add chlorine to the skimmer basket.
- Six 1” tablets ( Speed-I-tabs ), or Two 3” Tablets ( Jumbo Tabs ) per 10,000 gallons of water.
- Shock the Pool using Blast ( non-chlorine shock ).
- 1.5 lbs per 10,000 gallons.
Additional Notes:
- If using the Aqua Smarte Mineral System, Install a new Mineral pack into the feeder.
- This pack lasts 6 months from when exposed to the water.
- Keep in mind, if using this system, you will use only 33% of the chlorine, and water testing will only need done once a week.
- For Phos Free, add 1 liter of Phos Free Spring & Fall per 10,000 gallons, for initial treatment, then one capful per 8,000 gallons per week of Phos Free / Pool Perfect concentrate.
- If using a Copper Algaecide, add 4 oz. per 10,000 gallons initially, the 2 oz. per 10,000 gallons every 2 weeks. Continue regular chlorine & Shock maintenance.
REMEMBER : NEVER FULLY DRAIN A POOL FOR ANY REASON!
