  3. Tamping and/or troweling the sand bottom and cove as a firm liner cushion.
  4. Seating the liner and mounting the skimmer and return jet(s).
  5. Installing the filter system without electrical hookup.
NOTE: Family Leisure cannot be responsible for electrical connection for any reason.
  6. Assembling the ladder and entry system.
  7. Family Leisure is not responsible for providing water or water replacement for any reason.

Building Permits:

Most counties require a building permit for an above ground pool, including a replacement pool. It is the customer’s responsibility to obtain this permit before installation. The permit holder is responsible for the compliance, including zoning, fencing, electrical requirements, and final inspections. The customer is acting as the contractor. Family Leisure is simply acting as the pool subcontractor. Family Leisure must install the pool exactly where it is located on the permit plot plan.

In addition to a building permit, all pools are required to have an alarm that complies with Tennessee State Codes as part of the final electrical inspection. In some cases, the alarm must be purchased before the issuance of a building permit by the codes department. A copy of your receipt will be needed as proof of purchase. Family Leisure cannot install the pool alarm. Alarm installation is part of the electrical compliance and must be performed by your electrician.

Customer Responsibilities:

  1. Locate and flag all underground utility lines, including power, phone, cable, septic tanks and field lines prior to excavation. Damage to unmarked utilities is solely the customer’s responsibility.
  2. Mark the proposed pool and filter location in compliance with all zoning requirements. Email several pictures of the proposed pool location from different angles to the Family Leiure installation department at Installation@familyleisure.com. Be sure to reference your customer number on the email.
NOTE: Family Leisure strongly recommends installing the filter and entry system on the lowest side of the pool site.
  3. Provide an 8-foot access path where trucks and excavation equipment are needed. There will be some lawn damage along the access path. Family Leisure cannot be responsible for the repair of damage to yards, driveways, or sidewalks within the access path or around the pool site perimeter.
  4. Order and pay for fine mason sand to be delivered to the pool site, but not placed in the proposed pool location. If the pool is an oval shape, it will also be required that the appropriate amount of gravel be delivered. All materials need to be placed outside the proposed pool location within 20-25 feet. Materials placed beyond this distance may be subject to an additional charge for time and labor.
  5. There will be excess dirt and sand after excavation. It is the customer’s responsibility to backfill, spread, and remove excess dirt and sand after the pool is filled.
NOTE: The Pool cannot be backfilled until the final electrical inspection has been completed.
  6. Furnish water and fill the pool to the proper level, approximately 1 inch from the top of the skimmer, before starting the filter. Do not fill the pool at night.
  7. Provide adequate electrical supply for the filter system and optional accessories AFTER the pool has been installed, according to state and local codes.
  8. The pool must be backfilled around the bottom of the pool to prevent sand washout. Excavation over 10 inches requires a positive drain system, using weep pipe, to direct groundwater away from the pool. The positive drain system is especially crucial within proximity to downspouts. Family Leisure is not responsible for issues resulting from improper backfilling or wash outs because weep pipe was not used.
  9. Any additional work requested of the subcontractor, such as backfilling, spreading, or removing excess materials, must be discussed with them subcontractor before the start of the installation and will be charged by bid.
  10. Check with your local, county, and state codes. Provide any permits or approvals needed to ensure compliance with all codes and ordinances.
  11. Read all safety and informational literature provided by Family Leisure and its manufacturers. Teach pool safety to family and guests, specifically NO DIVING, as instructed by Family Leisure Pool School. Check with your local store and www.FamilyLeisure.com for pool school videos, and time and availability for in-store pool school classes.
  12. Additional installation and safety information is available at www.FamilyLeisure.com

Electrical Requirements:

The customer must provide a 20amp 110v power source for the filter that is protected by a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI). Some Pool lights, and the Perma Salt system require 110v electricity as well. A qualified electrician should provide this service in accordance with state and local codes AFTER the pool has been installed. Tennessee state codes outline specific requirements concerning pool alarms, proper bonding, and plug/outlet types. An extension cord DOES NOT meet electrical codes and will void the pump manufacturer’s warranty.

Tennessee state codes vary between counties and municipalities concerning above ground pools. Customers should check with their governing building permit department to ensure they are complying with current codes. Although the electrical connection must be installed after the pool installation, we recommend consulting with a qualified/licensed electrician before applying for a building permit. Additional information is provided in your pool folder and in-store at our Customer Service department

Possible Additional Installation Fees (These are payable directly to the subcontractor at the time of installation):

  1. If the site is out of level by more than 30 inches, a retaining wall or additional site preparation, such as a gravel build-up, may be required. Retaining walls are not available through Family Leisure.
  2. Excavating to level the site over 12 inches is charged at $15.00 per inch, up to 30 inches of out of level excavation. Additional out of level excavation beyond 30 inches is by bid only. Additional excavation, of any kind, beyond what is required for leveling, is charged at $25.00 per inch.
  3. Backfilling and rough grading around the pool site is available for $400.00 if the excavation is less than 30 inches. Backfilling and rough grading cannot be performed at the time of installation because there is not enough water in the pool. This rough grade is by machine only around the perimeter of the pool and does not include grass seeding or placing drainpipe. If you are interested, please speak with your installation crew when they arrive or call the Installation Department at Family Leisure for more information.
  4. In the case where excavation has been started, and obstruction is encountered which renders the site unsuitable, the following options may be suggested:
    • The excavation site can be moved for a charge of $75.00. This charge includes a rough grade of the original site.
    • A process known as a gravel build-up may be recommended. It is the customer’s responsibility to order and pay for 3/4″ limestone gravel. The labor to move and place the gravel is charged at $5.00 per ton. Family Leisure will provide a barrier for placement between the gravel and sand.
    • If a suitable location cannot be located, the installer will rough grade the original site to the approximate original contour. There is a $100.00 show-up charge payable to the subcontractor for their labor.
  5. Dirt removal is not available through Family Leisure and is not Family Leisure’s responsibility.
  6. Tree and stump removal is not available through Family Leisure and is not Family Leisure’s responsibility.
  7. We cannot guarantee that we can install the pool closer than 24 inches from an existing deck.
  8. Damage to the pool bottom or liner due to roots, nutgrass, insects, improper backfill, or misuse is not covered under any warranty.
  9. Sand bottom washout due to improper backfilling or failure to install a positive drain system is not covered under any warranty.
