One of the most common concerns that customers have is that of wall buckles. Family Leisure would like to assure all our new pool customers that it is normal to have some wall buckles during the construction and filling period. There are several things that can contribute to the wall temporarily bowing in.
- Cold filling is a major cause of buckling. The liners do not stretch as easily as they do on hot sunny days. This causes them to pull down on the wall, causing the buckling until enough water pressure is achieved to push the buckles out. This is most evident on ovals.
- The liner installation process itself can cause buckles. A vacuum is placed behind the liner during installation to pull all the wrinkles out. This also pulls the wall in. The wall will, however, be pushed back into place as the water level increases.
- Small bits of rock of sand can also get in the track and cause buckles by not allowing the wall to sit completely down in the track. Normally, this corrects itself through a combination of water pressure and the expansion and contraction that occurs when the metal wall is heated in the day and cooled at night. This allows the wall to move enough to work its way past the obstruction.
The important thing to remember is that wall buckles are no surprise and should not be a major concern. They, almost always, will correct themselves and are commonly not a structural issue.
