{"id":355,"date":"2021-05-03T06:47:59","date_gmt":"2021-05-03T06:47:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portal.familyleisurenashville.com\/?p=355"},"modified":"2021-05-26T15:51:56","modified_gmt":"2021-05-26T15:51:56","slug":"abcs-of-spa-maintenance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/portal.familyleisurenashville.com\/?p=355","title":{"rendered":"ABC&#8217;s of Spa Maintenance"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>INITIAL FILL UP OF SPA:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Metal Gon or Metal Control is a mineral sequestering agent.&nbsp; Add 8 ounces (if necessary) per 500 gallons of water to remove minerals such as iron, copper &amp; manganese. *normally added when source is hard water.<\/li><li>Test Alkalinity &amp; pH using your test strips and adjust if necessary<ul><li>Alkalinity should be between 80 \u2013 120 parts per million (ppm)<\/li><li>Alkalinity can be raised by adding baking soda as well as Spa Up<\/li><li>pH of water should be between 7.2 \u2013 7.6 (FYI: pH = percent hydrogen)<\/li><li>Adjust pH using Spa Up or Spa Down if necessary.<\/li><li>Add Spa Up or Spa Down one ounce at a time, and allow 60 minutes for water to circulate before re-testing and adding more.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Add one tablespoon of chlorine granules (Spa 56), or 2 Bromine tablets.<\/li><li>Test water hardness, if low add calcium booster 1oz retest after 60 minutes (calcium hardness is CH on test strip)<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-vivid-red-background-color has-text-color has-background\"><strong>NOTE: <\/strong>Do Not add chemicals all at once &#8211; Will cause foaming.  Allow time for chemicals to adjust to water balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WEEKLY CHEMICAL MAINTENANCE:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Test pH and Alkalinity levels and adjust if necessary.<\/li><li>Add 1 tablespoon of Chlorine granules (Spa 56) or Bromine tablets.<\/li><li>Add Renew, or spa oxy shock which is a non-chlorine shock.&nbsp; Add 2 tablespoons per 500 gallons.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-vivid-red-background-color has-text-color has-background\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> Add Chlorine &amp; Shock on different days for maximum effectiveness, and to reduce foam. (Add Chlorine on Mondays, and Renew on Fridays for example)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An Ozone system will negatively affect the chlorine or bromine reading on a test strip.  Do Not add more than recommended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MONTHLY AND QUARTERLY MAINTENANCE:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CLEAN FILTERS<\/strong>:&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Filters can usually be cleaned simply by spraying with hose. <\/li><li>Optional ways to clean would be to soak filter in filter cleaner or white distilled vinegar for 2 hours and allow to dry, Filters can be placed in dishwasher, however, do not use detergent, and do not use dry cycle that could melt the ends of the filter.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Nature 2 system, or Spa Frog, should be replaced every 3-4 months<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DRAIN AND REFILL SPA EVERY 3-4 MONTHS<\/strong><br>&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Turn heat down on spa and use breaker to turn power to spa off.<\/li><li>Most spas have a drain.&nbsp; Simply use this or attach hose to this to drain spa.<\/li><li>If spa does not have drain, use hose or pump to siphon water.<\/li><li>Clean spa shell using mild soap and water.&nbsp; Avoid using any abrasive cleaner that can scratch &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;the finish of spa.<\/li><li>Refill and turn power on (Make sure spa is full before turning power on.)<\/li><li>With spa running, set temperature and filtration cycles.<\/li><li>Repeat steps for Initial fill up of spa (SEE ABOVE).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-vivid-red-background-color has-text-color has-background\"><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong><strong>* ALWAYS REFILL SPA THRU FILTER TO AVOID ANY AIR LOCKS *<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>INITIAL FILL UP OF SPA: Metal Gon or Metal Control is a mineral sequestering agent.&nbsp; Add 8 ounces (if necessary) per 500 gallons of water<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":364,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_coblocks_attr":"","_coblocks_dimensions":"","_coblocks_responsive_height":"","_coblocks_accordion_ie_support":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[5,13,7],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-355","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-spa","category-spa-chemicals","category-spa-maintenance"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/portal.familyleisurenashville.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/355","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/portal.familyleisurenashville.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/portal.familyleisurenashville.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/portal.familyleisurenashville.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/portal.familyleisurenashville.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=355"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/portal.familyleisurenashville.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/355\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":365,"href":"https:\/\/portal.familyleisurenashville.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/355\/revisions\/365"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/portal.familyleisurenashville.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/364"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/portal.familyleisurenashville.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=355"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/portal.familyleisurenashville.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=355"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/portal.familyleisurenashville.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=355"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
